About the Sakhal map
Sakhal is the official Frostline map, a frozen archipelago of around 268 square kilometers made up of icy coastlines, a volcanic center, snowbound settlements and isolated military zones. Cold-weather survival is the core challenge here: temperature, frozen water, wind and limited safe routes make Sakhal feel very different from the warmer official maps.
Use this interactive Sakhal map to plan island crossings, manage warmth on long routes, and locate coastal settlements, industrial areas and military loot. Toggle layers for vehicle spawns, dynamic events, hospitals and loot tiers, search for any item by name, and measure distances with the built-in ruler.
Key locations on Sakhal
A small, hostile island where the cold decides everything — these are the spots that keep you armed, warm and alive.
The largest military complex on Sakhal and the island's endgame loot stop — the best weapons, armour and military gear. Remote and cold, so plan your warmth before the run, not after.
Volcanic hot springs and geyser fields warm you up without a fire — a lifeline on a freezing map. But some vents leak toxic gas, so approach carefully and keep a gas mask handy near the worst clusters.
Surviving Sakhal
Cold is the real enemy
Your body heat drains constantly and blizzards make it worse. Dry, warm layers, a reliable fire kit and frequent warm-ups are not optional — hypothermia will kill you long before the infected do.
Heat sources: fire, hot springs, shelter
Fireplaces, indoor stoves and the geothermal hot springs all restore warmth. Stay out of the wind, dry your clothes by a fire, and use the springs as natural waypoints — just watch for toxic gas at some geysers.
A small island — sea, ice and exposure
Sakhal is compact, so players concentrate and routes are short — but the open, treeless stretches leave you exposed to both snipers and the wind. Move ridge-to-ridge and keep a warm-up point in reach.
Where to loot on Sakhal
- Top-tier weapons & military gear: Vostok military base and the other military areas inland.
- Warm clothing, food & medical: the coastal towns (Petropavlovsk-Sakhalskiy, Yuzhnoye) and their shops and clinics.
- Tools & industrial gear: Rudnogorsk and the mining/industrial sites.
- Search the map for an item to see exactly where its loot zones overlap on Sakhal.
Survival & route tips
- Warmth first: get a fire kit and dry, warm clothing before doing anything else.
- Never let your clothes get soaked — wet gear freezes you fast; dry off at a fire or hot spring.
- Plan routes between heat sources — hot springs make great natural waypoints toward Vostok.
- Keep a gas mask for the contaminated geyser clusters, and use the ruler above to measure exposed crossings.
Search the map for these
Type any of these into the search box on the interactive map above to highlight where its loot zones overlap (exact loot can vary by server):

Sakhal DayZ map FAQ
What does this Sakhal DayZ map show?
This interactive DayZ map shows Sakhal, the official Frostline winter terrain with frozen coastlines, islands, settlements, forests, military areas and harsh survival routes. You can zoom, pan and use it to plan travel, bases, loot runs and server events.
Do I need to buy a DLC to play Sakhal?
Yes. Sakhal is part of the paid Frostline expansion, so you must own Frostline to join Sakhal servers - it is not included in the base DayZ game. ChernarusPlus and Livonia do not require it.
How big is the Sakhal map in DayZ?
Sakhal uses a 16,384 x 16,384 meter world, which is about 268 square kilometers. The frozen island layout, cold-weather survival and separated coastal routes make it feel very different from ChernarusPlus and Livonia.
Why do players like the Sakhal Frostline map?
Sakhal is popular because it adds a colder and more punishing DayZ experience. Temperature, frozen water, island movement, limited safe routes and winter survival pressure make planning more important than on warmer maps.
What are the most important locations on Sakhal?
Important Sakhal locations include coastal settlements, inland villages, military zones, industrial areas, island crossings, hunting routes and frozen shoreline travel paths. These areas are useful for loot planning, navigation, fishing, warmth management and finding player traffic.
Can I use this map to find or play on Sakhal servers?
Yes. Use the Sakhal map to plan your movement, then browse DayZ servers running Sakhal or Frostline on the launcher site. Sakhal servers can be vanilla, hardcore survival, PvP, PvE, roleplay, modded or winter-event communities.
How do the coordinates on this Sakhal map work?
The coordinate panel follows your cursor over the Sakhal map and lets you copy the current position. This helps when sharing meeting points, base locations, fishing spots, event areas or admin reports with other DayZ players.
